A Few Old Tunes (1996) - boards of canada

I should definitely put in both A Few Old Tunes vol. 1 and Old Tunes vol. 2 since both were made around the same time. The two also have similar constitutions of being compilations of music the brothers made, but for the sake of this page, I will just put the first volume. I still highly recommend listening to the second volume as well. To give some background on these projects, the two volumes aren't even meant to be heard by fans and were only given out to friends and family. As common as it is, someone leaked them to the internet via media-sharing sites in the early 2000s. Having this history makes these two projects feel personal, which is then followed by the lurking feeling that you shouldn't be here listening to each track. It's as if you joined a conversation between friends that has been going on for years. Leaving you clueless of what is considered a joke and what is serious. Even with the overwhelming unknown, you are still filled with curiousness. You stick around. I don't remember when I came across these two projects, but I am glad that I did. When I first moved away to live on my own, I couldn't afford an internet plan. The local Starbucks became a common place for me to go to for any online work. It was a chaotic location, being located downtown, but I didn't mind it. Plugging in my headphones and listening to A Few Old Tunes washed away the noise and eased my anxiety. It helped me get through one of the roughest times in my life with its homey environments. Some tracks are calm and relaxing, while others are filled with an eerie ambience and dance influences. Even though these two projects aren't the first I would recommend them from Boards of Canada. I would still give them a try if you like lo-fidelity tape-warped dreamscape sounds, if that makes sense.
